VPA MODULE 1A – THEORETICAL BASES

AXES & FLIGHT CONTROLS

The Three Axes: Learn how an airplane maneuvers in three dimensions around its lateral, longitudinal, and vertical axes, each influencing pitch, roll, and yaw respectively. Understand the fundamental concepts of airplane attitude and control.

Primary Flight Controls: Master the primary flight controls: the elevator for pitch, the ailerons for roll, and the rudder for yaw. Learn how the control column and pedals are used to maneuver the airplane during various phases of flight.

Secondary Flight Controls: Explore secondary flight controls that enhance primary controls. Study high lift devices like slats and flaps, which increase lift during takeoff and landing, and spoilers that manage lift and assist in braking. Understand the importance of trim to maintain stable flight without continuous control input.
